Two future boarding school freshman from the South will receive $1,000 scholarships courtesy of a Harbor Day School graduate and author of “The Boarding School Survival Guide,” according to a news release.
Justin Muchnick announced the scholarship in June and said he received applications from as far away as Egypt, Iran, Canada and throughout the United States.
Muchnick, a Phillips Academy Andover senior, said the scholarship was a way to “pay it forward.”
Applicants were required to submit essays about why they wanted to attend boarding school and why the scholarship would be helpful.
The winners were Bob Moore from Louisville, who will be attending McCallie School in Chattanooga, and Elise Hogan from Sicklerville, N.J., who will be attending St. Andrews School in Middletown, Del.
Muchnick also is co-author of “Straight-A Study Skills.”
